What Does Mission Look Like Among the Unreached Peoples of Afghanistan?

Dear friends,

One of the questions I am often asked is, “What does Christian mission look like in Afghanistan today?”

Recently I had the opportunity to explore that question in a conversation with Dr. Don Little, an Islamic missiologist who has spent decades helping Christians think carefully about engaging Muslims with the gospel.

During our conversation, Don asked me, “Is there a struggle you would like to share?” My mind immediately went to something I had written only days earlier:

“The Christian faith among Afghans is being formed in the womb of pain, and tears are the embryonic fluid helping us grow. Yet, in the midst of it all, just as a child is so close to its mother in the womb, we find ourselves close to the very heart of God.”

That conviction continues to stay with me. The Afghan church is growing in difficult circumstances, but God has not abandoned His people. In many ways, suffering has become the place where Afghan believers are discovering His nearness most deeply.
